mohabbat meñ koī sadma uThānā chāhiye thā
bhulāyā thā jise vo yaad aanā chāhiye thā
girī thiiñ ghar kī dīvāreñ to sehn-e-dil meñ ham ko
gharauñde kā koī naqsha banānā chāhiye thā
uThānā chāhiye thī raakh shahr-e-ārzū kī
phir is ke ba.ad ik tūfān uThānā chāhiye thā
koī to baat karnā chāhiye thī ḳhud se āḳhir
kahīñ to mujh ko bhī ye dil lagānā chāhiye thā
kabhī to ehtimām-e-ārzū bhī thā zarūrī
koī to ziist karne kā bahānā chāhiye thā
mirī apnī aur us kī aarzū meñ farq ye thā
mujhe bas vo use saarā zamāna chāhiye thā
mirī raat merā charāġh merī kitāb de
mirā sahrā bāñdh le paañv se mujhe aab de
mire nukta-dāñ tirā fahm apnī misāl hai
maiñ huuñ ek saada savāl koī javāb de
mirī chashm-e-nam kisī ratjage meñ ulajh ga.ī
mirī niiñd oḌh le raat bhar mujhe ḳhvāb de
mire goshvāre meñ kaun bhartā gayā lahū
ai mirī talab mujhe har ghaḌī kā hisāb de
mire bahr o bar ko sameT le mire kūza-gar
mujhe an-kahī mujhe āgahī kā azaab de
manzaroñ ke darmiyāñ manzar banānā chāhiye
rahnavard-e-shauq ko rasta dikhānā chāhiye
apne saare rāste andar kī jānib moḌ kar
manziloñ kā ik nishāñ bāhar banānā chāhiye
sochnā ye hai ki us kī justujū hone talak
saath apne ḳhud raheñ ham yā zamānā chāhiye
terī merī dāstāñ itnī zarūrī to nahīñ
duniyā ko kahne kī ḳhātir bas fasānā chāhiye
phuul kī pattī pe likkhūñ nazm jaisī ik duā
haath uThāne ke liye mujh ko bahānā chāhiye
vasl kī koī nishānī hijr ke bāham rahe
ab ke saada haath par mehñdī lagānā chāhiye
phuul ḳhushbū rañg jugnū raushnī ke vāste
ghar kī dīvāroñ meñ ik rauzan banānā chāhiye
shaam ko vāpas palaTte tā.eroñ ko dekh kar
sochtī huuñ lauT kar ab ghar bhī jaanā chāhiye
dil meñ hai talab aur duā aur tarah kī
hai ḳhāk-nashīnī kī sazā aur tarah kī
jab raakh se uTThegā kabhī ishq kā sho.ala
phir pā.egī ye ḳhaak shifā aur tarah kī
jaate hue mausam kī to pahchān yahī hai
dastak meñ mujhe degā sadā aur tarah kī
hai hijr kā pairāya-e-fan aur tarah kā
aur vasl-kahānī hai zarā aur tarah kī
shab bhī hai vahī ham bhī vahī tum bhī vahī ho
hai ab ke magar apnī sazā aur tarah kī
